FADSP LogoDSP's Making a Difference: Destiny Pond

As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Destiny Pond is one of those DSPs.

Destiny Pond has been working at Key Training Center for 4 years as an Instructor for Life Skills Development 3 & 4. She consistently demonstrates exceptional compassion, patience, professionalism, and dedication in every aspect of her work. Destiny treats every individual with dignity and respect while encouraging them to reach their fullest potential, and her positive attitude and willingness to help wherever she's needed make her an outstanding role model for both clients and coworkers.

One of Destiny's greatest strengths is her versatility. She willingly fills many different roles within the organization without hesitation - when transportation staffing is limited, she steps in to safely transport clients to and from the Adult Day Training (ADT) program so they continue receiving the services they depend on. About a year ago, Destiny took on the challenge of helping with the Life Skills 4 program where she has built trusting relationships with participants while teaching valuable job skills, work habits, communication, and confidence. Due to her encouragement, coaching, and belief in their abilities, three individuals have successfully obtained and maintained employment in the community, each personally crediting Destiny for helping them get there. She also promotes community inclusion by organizing and joining volunteer opportunities, including accompanying individuals to volunteer with Meals on Wheels and helping them create Scent Kits for the Sheriff's Department. On top of all this, Destiny continues to serve individuals in the Life Skills 3 program, often spending half her day in Life Skills 4 before transitioning directly into Life Skills 3 - effectively managing two work areas, two desks, and what can feel like four different jobs, all handled with professionalism and flexibility.

Destiny is described as a strong advocate who never lets others' doubts define what an individual can achieve. When family members, friends, or even professionals believe someone may never succeed in community employment, Destiny advocates for that person's abilities, not their disabilities, helping them recognize their own strengths and believe they can achieve what they once thought impossible.

What truly sets Destiny apart, though, is her humility. She doesn't seek recognition or the spotlight. When asked why she does what she does, her answer is always the same: "This is not a job - this is my passion. I want to help people become all they can be." Despite her reluctance to be singled out, her dedication hasn't gone unnoticed, she has received numerous Employee of the Month awards and has been recognized by coworkers, supervisors, and the individuals she supports. For Destiny, the greatest reward is simply seeing the people she supports gain confidence, independence, meaningful employment, and a better quality of life.

Thank you, Destiny, for your ongoing service to the individuals served at Key Training Center!
