DSP's Making a Difference: Nicola Allen
As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Nicola Allen is one of those DSPs.
Nicola Allen has been working at Arc Broward for over ten years and is currently a Direct Support Professional 2. In her tenure, she has brought exceptional, compassionate, person-centered support to every participant she serves at Arc Broward - whether within the Adult Day Program or in participants' own residences. She treats each individual with dignity, respect, empathy, and genuine kindness, and her ability to build trusting relationships ensures that everyone she works with experiences meaningful engagement, purpose, and an enhanced quality of life.
Nicola's dedication has produced real, measurable results. Through her patience, consistency, and skilled approach, she helped two participants significantly reduce maladaptive behaviors, allowing them to transition successfully and thrive within the Senior Day Program. Her ability to recognize each person's unique strengths and needs enables her to develop supportive strategies that foster independence, confidence, and personal growth.
Nicola lives the DSP Code of Ethics each and every day - approaching every interaction with kindness and compassion, creating opportunities for meaningful participation, and ensuring individuals feel valued, heard, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Beyond her direct work with participants, Nicola is widely respected by colleagues and the management team for her professionalism, integrity, reliability, and outstanding work ethic. She leads with humility, serves with compassion, and acts with integrity, inspiring those around her through both her words and her actions. Nicola completed the DSPaths program in 2019, further reflecting her ongoing commitment to professional growth in the field.
Thank you, Nicola, for your ongoing service to the individuals served at Arc Broward!
