FADSP LogoDSP's Making a Difference: Shadija Wells

As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Shadija Wells is one of those DSPs.

Shadija Wells has been working at Ann Storck Center for four years as a Direct Support Professional. She is recognized for her exceptional dedication, compassion, and commitment to the individuals she supports. Shadija consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of her role, arriving early and staying late to make sure individuals are transported safely to and from the program — a reflection of her unwavering commitment to their health and safety.

Shadija is a strong advocate for the people she supports, always promoting self-determination, independence, and personal choice while ensuring the quality of care she provides exceeds expectations. Her person-centered approach empowers the individuals she works with to pursue their goals and live as independently as possible. She maintains open, effective communication with each person's entire circle of support - families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members alike - helping ensure consistency of care, enhanced safety, and positive outcomes across every setting.

Beyond her daily responsibilities, Shadija takes the initiative to plan special events and celebrations that make each individual feel valued and appreciated, from birthday celebrations to holiday festivities, creating opportunities for joy, inclusion, and lasting memories. In living out the DSP Code of Ethics, she tailors her support to each person's unique strengths and preferences, safeguards confidentiality and privacy, and treats everyone she serves with fairness and equity, regardless of ability or circumstance. Her professionalism, integrity, and genuine compassion make her an outstanding Direct Support Professional whose work has a meaningful, lasting impact on the individuals she serves.

Thank you, Shadija, for your ongoing service to the individuals served at Ann Storck Center!
