FADSP LogoDSP's Making a Difference: Janetta Bradley

As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Janetta Bradley is one of those DSPs.

Janetta Bradley has been working at Sunrise Community for seven years serving as a Direct Support Professional. In every aspect of a DSP, Janetta is a bright light - a shining example for all. Throughout her years at Sunrise, Janetta has been an advocate, a strong support, a cheerleader, a mentor, and a guide for both the individuals she serves and her fellow DSPs.

As an advocate, Janetta passionately represents her clients to physicians and other professionals, ensuring that their wants and needs are clearly understood, especially when clients are unable to articulate for themselves. In addition to the birthday and Christmas gifts provided to the individuals she serves, Janetta personally shops for additional gifts out of her own funds, allowing her clients to receive something special from her. She plans her time off around the needs of her individuals supported, consistently prioritizing their well-being, as she often says, "they come first."

Janetta’s gentle sense of humor makes even the most ordinary moments fun and exciting for her clients. She helps them see the humor in daily life, brightening their days with her lightheartedness. Believing wholeheartedly in self-determination and self-reliance, Janetta is dedicated to helping people with I/DD maximize their independence. She has worked with clients who previously required total assistance with personal care tasks. Through patience, perseverance, and gentle care, Janetta has enabled these individuals to need less assistance and feel more independent in their self-care.

Janetta is also a mentor to DSPs, serving as an "on-the-job" trainer for newly onboarded staff. She ensures they learn to support the individuals they serve with excellence. Her kind demeanor and critical thinking skills help resolve conflicts and problem-solve, preventing issues from escalating. Janetta’s initiative is exemplary; she anticipates tasks that need to be completed and handles them proactively without being asked. She ensures that the group home is always "inspection ready" during her shifts. Janetta's supervisor, the Residential Manager, credits Janetta's excellence as a key factor in achieving two consecutive perfect AHCA surveys for this group home. While many DSPs are excellent, a few truly exemplify the heart and soul of the Direct Support Professional mission and Janetta Bradley is one of those exceptional individuals.

Janetta assists individuals in enjoying water activities, promotes physical well-being through exercises and community sessions, and provides support during medical appointments. She mentors other DSPs on medication administration and documentation, secures confidential information, and educates the community about individuals with I/DD. Janetta advocates for community integration and ensures her clients' voices are heard.

Thank you, Janetta, for your ongoing service to the individuals served at Sunrise Community!
