DSP's Making a Difference: Frances Scott-Reeder
As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize direct support professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Frances Scott-Reeder is one of those DSPs.
Frances Scott-Reeder has been a Direct Support Professional for 15 years. She is an outstanding DSP that shows compassion, dedication, and love for all of the consumers served. The residents at Barc Housing feel that Frances is a part of their lives, not just a staff member. Frances has a personal relationship with each and every consumer whose life she touches.
Frances is dedicated to the profession and this is seen through her enrollment in the DS PATHs program and graduation in July of 2020. She consistently provides support and training to the consumers to help them achieve their goals. Her relationships are based in mutual respect and kindness which provides the consumers the support and security they need to grow and reach their full potential. Over the years, Frances has consistently ensured the needs of the residents are met. She promotes dignity and makes sure all interactions with the residents are pleasant. She advocates for the residents constantly.
Frances provides person-centered supports. She supports the residents to advocate for their own needs and desires. Through her support, she ensures the residents are provided with the information needed to be able to make informed choices and have experiences that are meaningful to them as individuals. She supports their participation in desired events and activities and ensures that their preferences are honored.
Frances promotes physical and emotional well-being. She actively teaches, encourages, and models healthy lifestyles by educating residents in the areas of healthy food choices, the needs for physical exercise, and the importance of properly taking medications. Frances provides the residents the opportunity to learn how to express their feelings in a positive manner. She remains in constant contact with the nursing, behavioral, and management staff to ensure all residents receive necessary supports. Frances shows integrity and responsibility by taking her role in the lives of the residents very seriously.
Frances has earned several PRIDE Cards showing she demonstrated Arc Broward’s Core Values: Passion, Respect, Integrity, Drive, and Entrepreneurial Spirit.
