Florida ARF & FADSP Celebrate Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Week

FADSP LogoDSP's Making a Difference: Jacqueline Rowe

As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize direct support professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Jacqueline Rowe is one of those DSPs.

Jacqueline Rowe has been working as an ABLE Counselor/Teacher Assistant at Arc Broward for almost three years. Jackie is an outstanding Direct Support Professional and she shows compassion, dedication, and love for all of the children served. She continuously helps the children and their families reach their full potential by supporting them and helping them strive to succeed. Jackie is a pleasure to work with and is always calm, respectful, and caring towards everyone she interacts with. She continuously empowers the children to learn, grow, and make lasting friendships.

Jackie always takes into consideration their needs, preferences, and abilities when engaging with the children. She strives to ensure they have a happy and educational experience by supporting them and ensuring the children feel safe and happy. She helps the children to become as independent as possible. Jackie always teaches the children and encourages them to try difficult things. She also supports and encourages them while they are working. Jackie is highly dedicated to the children served at Arc Broward and it shows through her daily interactions and the tremendous amount of progress the children in her care make. She is always warm and inviting and the children see her as a role model. Jackie has greatly improved the quality of the children’s lives by providing opportunities to learn, express their wants and needs, and to participate in meaningful activities.

Jackie is one of the most compassionate employees that Arc Broward has ever had. She truly loves all of her students as if they were her own children. You can see her compassion and dedication by how invested in the care she demonstrates to the children and families. An example is a new child who was enrolled was having difficulty adjusting with leaving his family along with many medical challenges. The child cried uncontrollably every day for months due to sensory, emotional, and medical issues. Jackie would speak to him calmly and soothe him all day long until he began making progress in the classroom and adjusted to his new environment. He was able to bond with Jackie which helped him to eventually stop crying. The child began making progress and began learning and developing new skills. Another example of Jackie's commitment is another child that needed comfort. He found that in Jackie. He would follow her around all day and hold on to her shirt because he needed that attachment. Because of her empathy, he was able to make improvements in his performance and skills in school and at home. The parents of both of these children, as well as many others, are so grateful to her for the love she shows their children every day.

Jackie provides person-centered supports. She allows the children to make choices and empowers them to become independent. She continuously advocates for the children ensuring she has all the resources to serve them. She works with the parents to ensure that they are informed of what their child did in school and aftercare for the day. Jackie demonstrates integrity and responsibility by planning lessons that will engage children at different levels and by being a positive role model for the children and the staff in her classroom. Jackie is always respectful to the family’s confidentiality and effectively demonstrates justice, fairness, equity, and respect to all. Jackie promotes self-determination by helping the children and their families to work together and to make appropriate choices so they can continue to learn and develop positive relationships.

Thank you, Jacqueline, for your continued service to the individuals served at Arc Broward!
