 DSP's Making a Difference: Amponsah Adusei
As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Amponsah Adusei is one of those DSPs.
 Amponsah Adusei has been working at Devereux Florida for two years, currently serving as Direct Care/Support Staff. He embodies the very essence of the culture of caring, demonstrating an extraordinary level of dedication, compassion, and leadership in his role. Amponsah consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the safety, dignity, and well-being of every individual he supports. When faced with challenges - such as the absence of a manager - Amponsah steps up without hesitation, providing steady leadership, guidance, and reassurance to both staff and the individuals. He leads with humility and strength, modeling servant leadership through his actions and setting a powerful example for others to follow. His calm, dependable presence and unwavering commitment create an environment where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
One remarkable example of Amponsah’s impact is his work with an individual who came to Devereux with no ability to perform daily tasks independently, completely reliant on staff for personal care. Through Amponsah’s patient coaching, encouragement, and belief in the individual’s potential, he helped them develop essential skills and confidence over time. Thanks to his persistence and guidance, this individual achieved a major milestone, the ability to complete their entire personal hygiene routine on their own. Achieving this accomplishment transformed their self-esteem, dignity, and quality of life. This powerful outcome is just one of many ways Amponsah has changed lives through his dedication to fostering independence and growth.

There have been several instances where he has had to step in and be the acting program manager in the absence of one.
