DSP's Making a Difference: Shay Arnold
As part of DSP Recognition Week, FADSP is pleased to recognize direct support professionals (DSPs) who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Shay Arnold is one of those DSPs.
Shay Arnold has been working for Central Florida Communities for 17 years. She is the epitome of a dedicated, hard-working, responsible, and caring individual as well as a strong advocate for the residents served at Central Florida Communities.
Shay fully invests in the overall care of the individuals. She takes pride in the resident’s overall appearance as well as the appearance of the home. Shay ensures that the residents have a well-rounded experience, and she is always exploring new community events that the individuals can participate in outside of the home. Shay not only looks out for the residents in her home but organizes group events for other homes to participate in as well.
During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Shay has helped to ensure that all infection control protocols are in place, and as a result her home has remained COVID free. She has taken the pandemic extremely serious and has taken the initiative to seek COVID testing for herself whenever she believes she has had potential exposure even if the level of exposure has been low. She understands the wellbeing of the residents and her staff is of utmost importance and does her best to minimize any potential spread of the virus.
Shay oversees an intensive behavior home that serves individuals with challenging behaviors as well as very involved parents. The parents of the home are extremely pleased with the appearance of the home since Shay has taken over as well as the level of care their loved ones are receiving.
Shay actively participates in the clients' person-centered support plans. She is extremely knowledgeable in the resident’s abilities and helps promote exploration of new challenges that will promote their growth. Shay does not take the attitude "oh, he can't do that.” She receives positive results from residents, and they enjoy trying something different that they have never been presented with the opportunity to do.
Shay is fully committed to her role as a Direct Care Staff Supervisor. She is responsible and holds others accountable. Shay has the respect of her peers and family members of the residents in her care. She equally gives respect to the residents and treats them with dignity. There is no greater advocate for the residents then Shay. Central Florida Communities' mission is to help individuals with intellectual disabilities achieve their fullest potential by challenging CFC employees to make a difference every day. Shay fully embodies the mission as she takes great pride in helping the individuals achieve their fullest potential and not settle for anything less; and, she encourages her staff to do the same.
Thank you, Shay for your continued service to the individuals served at Central Florida Communities!
